Overviews

The rapid development and widespread use of drones came after the Gulf War. Western countries, led by the United States, fully recognize the role of unmanned aerial vehicles (uavs) in the war, and compete to apply high and new technologies to the development of uavs: New airfoils and light materials greatly increase the duration of uavs; Signal Processing and communication technology are used to improve the speed of image transmission and digital transmission, among them, multi-sensor signal processing and data fusion technology has become the core of current UAV technology research and development and technical breakthrough.

Strong evidence of the multi-sensor signal processing application for uavs is the integrated sensor (ISS) for the Global Hawk uavs, developed by Raytheon, which uses electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) sensors, combine the synthetic aperture radar with the moving target’s trajectory. SAR images can cover a wide range of terrain, while high-resolution Doppler radar and ground-based multitarget detection (GMTI) techniques can accurately identify individual moving vehicles and even reaction. When the EO/IR sensor is locked on the target, the operator can be guided to launch a precise attack on the target.

Scheme design

Based on RapidIO technology, a large scale HPEC 6000 signal processing system with dozens of POWERPC 8640D/8641D processors and a super small HPEC 3000 signal processing system with several gpus based on Pcie are different in size and operational requirements. The HPEC 6000 system can meet the requirements of sensor data processing and data fusion for large UAV SAR, radar, electro-optical, infrared, hyperspectral imaging, ground multi-target detection, etc. , large-scale data processing can be completed on the plane and then the valid data can be sent down to the ground command center, compared with many unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications which only transfer the acquired sensor data to the ground command center for data processing, the real-time performance is greatly improved The HPEC 3000 system is mainly used in small uavs with space limitation and strict weight requirement. Its PCIe based switching architecture can flexibly configure various signal processing and storage modules according to different application requirements, using GPU signal processing module in the system can improve the computing performance and real-time performance of the system.
